Lot 3030 WINCHESTER ENGRAVED 3RD MODEL 1866 LEVER ACTION

RIFLE. Cal. 44 HRF. S# 32105. Bbl. 24" octagon with King's Improvement patent marking. Globe front sight with an unidentified adjustable leaf rear sight and an early Sharps style vernier tang sight. Full length mag. Brass action generous coverage of New York style vine type foliate scroll hand engraving with punch dot backgrounds. Complimentary engraving extends to the brass forend cap and brass crescent trapdoor buttplate. Unusual features include an added sliding brass dust cover and added single set trigger. Walnut forearm and straight grip stock with sling swivels. Mfg. in 1870. CONDITION: bbl. and mag. tube blue has faded to mottled brown showing small dents on the mag. tube. Bbl. markings remain clear. Brass action has reacquired a mild patina. Lightly refinished stocks show scattered scratches and marks with small chips on both sides of forearm and right side of top tang at the action. Right side of the stock also has a small crack. Custom trigger has stiff function. Bore retains sound rifling showing scattered light pitting. (01-26434/DS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,500.
